Switching CAD systems

The decision to update CAD software is a serious undertaking. Companies going through the upgrade process need to consider the cost of the new software, any new hardware requirements, user training and converting legacy documents. Improper planning could result in more costs than benefits. Another risk is the new software will not work in the company or industry culture. This article asserts that the primary reason to switch CAD systems is to save money. When you consider the maintenance fees for running older systems and efficiency improvements with newer software it is easy to see direct cost benefits to switching. Another reason for switching is added or enhanced functionality such as 3D design which is a major benefit to applications such as machine design. CAD software developers have made efforts to reduce the barriers to switching. For example, newer systems have become easier for users to learn. Some of the CAD software providers have online training programs so that users have greater flexibility to learn at their own pace. Also, there are new programs available to translate legacy documents into the new system. Read the full article at Machine Design.
