High performance planetary gearboxes are compact
A new line of planetary gearboxes has recently been developed. These high performance gearboxes are designed with a two-stage drive gear configuration that will allow them to be more compact and have less mechanical inertia. A planetary gearing is a gear system in which there are one or more outer planet gears revolving around a central sun gear. There are many uses to planetary gearing such as increasing output speed or converting linear motion into rotational motion. A company called Gudel is the developer of this new planetary gearbox that features advanced pick and place capabilities and ability for high speed and acceleration. The new gearboxes have a compact design, provide superior torsional and axial stiffness, high precision, good efficiency, and low noise. The article points out that due to a choice of eight reduction ratios, these gearboxes are able to be used in a variety of different applications. These gear systems will be most valuable for high volume metal working, assembly or manufacturing applications - in particular within the automotive, logistics, warehousing, pharmaceuticals machine tool, aerospace, defense, food processing and electronics industries.
