Disposable Panel Assembly System

Customer automation need

(5) Machines; the prototype, (2) pallet indexers (1) 16 feet, (1) 10 feet, (1) Singles Panel Assembly Machine, (1) Assembly System.

The project had the following restrictions on machine design:

  • Minimize footprint of machines
  • Machine rate 30/min -- Laser marker cycle time required (2) lasers to make rate
  • Product design evolved during production machine design; project kept pace.
  • Budget -- Project Time and Materials

The required machine features were:

  • Receive blank card and place on empty nest on the pallet indexer
  • Feed/Punch out from Web feed and place in the wells on the cards in multiple formats
  • Vision inspect for component assembly, placement accuracy
  • Laser mark the card with date/lot code
  • Foil seal the top of the card -- hermetic seal
  • Offload the final parts to bulk

McClellan machine design solution/features
