Mechanical Engineer / Machine Designer

Research, plan, and design automation machinery and systems. Coordinate or support activities involved in fabrication, operation, application, installation, and repair of custom mechanical or electromechanical systems.

Research and analyze data such as customer design proposal and specifications to determine design concepts and solutions.

Design custom systems for assembly, inspection, test, and packaging of medical and industrial products. Integrate part feeders, instruments, controls, robots, engines, machines, and mechanical, thermal, pneumatic, or heat transfer systems.

Work in tandem with electrical and controls engineers to ensure the functionality and completeness of the design output.

Participate in project management tasks such as design reviews, status reporting, and team meetings.

Provide direction and support to the field service technicians. Evaluate field installations and recommend design modifications to eliminate machine or system malfunctions.

At least 5 years experience and Mechanical Engineering degree preferred.

Responsibilities include concept, design, specification, build and implementation of factory automation equipment.

Experience: Requirements:
  • Pick & place equipment
  • Automated assembly equipment
  • Robotic integration design
  • Material handling and automated gauging and inspection
  • Other custom equipment relating to medical, automotives, rubber and plastics, metals, chemicals, and related industries
  • Bachelors degree (or higher) in mechanical engineering or manufacturing technology
  • Experience as an engineer in a design capacity with manufacturing and industrial environments outside of an engineering office
  • Experience in SolidWorks
  • Understanding of mechanisms and strength of materials,  mathematical analysis and calculation methods for machine design,  mechanical design codes and standards
  • Dimensioning, tolerance, fit & finish
  • Machine design experience
  • Industrial safety requirements
  • Project management skills are desirable
  • Robotic experience is a plus
