Pick and Place Equipment Manufacturing

Pick and place systems

Pick and place systems are designed to perform repetitive picking and placing tasks in production or laboratory facilities, and are usually employed for their precision and cost effectiveness.  McClellan Automation has the capability to design and build custom pick and place equipment to your specifications.  Pick and place machines designed by our automation engineers are distinguished by their exceptional efficiency and precision, resulting in an increase in output as well as long-term savings for our Customers.

We have designed and built pick and place systems for a variety of applications, including placement of malleable silicone parts into a dial nest, placement of tiny steel pins (0.02” diameter X 0.080” length!) into the head of an electrode, and offload of filled medical dispensers into stacked palletized trays.  We have also produced inter-changeable docking pick-and-place stations, allowing customers to include different configurations of assembled parts in their product lines.  Our extensive expertise in a wide range of industries from manufacturing to medical devices and pharmaceutical allows us to design the most effective and efficient systems for your particular application.

McClellan’s pick and place systems typically consist of linear motor technology for very high speed, servo-driven ball screw and rodless slide mechanisms for cost effective high speed, SCARA robots with custom end-of-arm tooling for flexibility to multiple pick and place positions, and pneumatic pick and place systems for medium speed, accurate low cost solutions.

Each pick and place design typically requires custom grip tooling and/or vacuum suction for controlling the part, and a calculated motion envelope.  McClellan Engineers are skilled at determining speeds, accelerations, and degrees of rotation required to optimize cycle time.

Size is no barrier!  McClellan Automation is versed at integrating large mold cavity pickers with customized tooling and sprue pickers to support the plastics industries.

McClellan’s o-ring installation pick-and-place system is a good example of how we can gently handle parts.  This system singulates parts from a feeder, picks them up indivdually from a nest with a gripper, stretches the o-ring around the mating part, and strips off the o-ring so that it remains in place.

As with all of our automation systems, McClellan’s pick and place systems are custom built for each of our Customers.  They can be equipped with customized features per requirements of your project, such as specialized grippers, high cycle rates, SCARA robots, rotary joints, vision systems, or registration elements to account for uneven pick surfaces.  Our experienced engineers will deliver your system on time, and without unwelcome surprises.
